Blackbilly
Blackbilly wines are distinctive wines of character and substance. Made to drink and also cellar, these wines are of excellent value and show regional and varietal strengths.
We use premium grapes from the Adelaide Super zone – a large geographical region encompassing the regions of McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Langhorne Creek, Barossa, Clare and Currency Creek. Each of the regions provides a difference which allows our winemaker to craft wines of interest and to showcase new varieties or styles.
The core range is made from classic varieties which offer great character and depth and proven consistency across many vintages to produce wines of optimum drinking experience that reflect the vineyards where the grapes are grown.
The ‘Winemaker’s Playground’ is a limited selection of wines made from grapes producing exciting styles of wines from varieties such as Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Mourvedre, Nebbiolo, and Marsanne that inspire our curiosity as winemakers.
Our name is inspired by the ubiquitous grass (or Yakka) tree that slowly grows around our vineyards in the scrubby bushland. It is also a road that borders our regions in which we grow our grapes. Our Blackbilly scrub is subject to bushfires which burn the plants into a black stump which then re-grows with its characteristic spear shaped flowers that typify our icon for this wine. Long lived, reliable and enduring are the inspirations that this range of wines draws from the ‘Blackbilly.
